DVD Review - Into the Blue 2 :The Reef

Into the Blue 2: The Reef

Two young scuba divers, Sebastion (Chris Carmack; “The O.C.”) and his girlfriend Dani (Laura Vandervoort; The Lookout, “Smallville”), run a small scuba business in Hawaii and often look for sunken treasure that would allow them to live on any beach in the world for the rest of their lives.  After years of searching, they begin to think of the treasure as nothing more than wet sand until they meet a wealthy vacationing couple – Azra (Marsha Thomason; “Lost,” “Las Vegas”) and Carlton (David Anders; “Heroes,” “Alias”) – who are willing to invest in the legend.

Azra and Carlton generously share their opulent lifestyle with the beach couple, who in turn introduce them to Hawaii’s best diving and nightlife.  However, when Dani and Sebastion turn up relics that may be from the treasure, the barnacle-covered gold also uncovers the truth about their new friends.  As Dani and Sebastion dive deeper into the ocean and further into their lies, they discover there’s more to fear in the water than sharks and sting rays—and the most dangerous creatures of all may be the ones they brought with them on the boat.

Special Features

The Into The Blue 2: The Reef DVD is presented in widescreen with English Dolby Surround 5.1 sound.  Bonus content includes:
  • “All Wet” Featurette
  • “Run For Your Life” Featurette
  • “Back To The Beach” Music Video
My Thoughts

Although slim on the plotting side, there are plenty of slick action scenes, accompanied by some gorgeous visuals of underwater diving sequences as well as a good-looking cast, that makes this movie watch-worthy. The acting is average, but there are enough gratuitous scenes involving scantily-clad/topless female characters that's certain to keep a section of the audience glued to their seats.

Overall, I generally liked watching Into The Blue 2: The Reef, even though it's nothing spectacular.

Kellogg's Eggo Bake Shop Twists

Even before I had my second child, there were many mornings when I woke up lacking both the time and the energy to bake something special for my family. Needless to say, I was and still am often guilt-ridden as a result. Thankfully, there's a solution to this!

Recognizing this issue, Eggo, maker of the breakfasts we've loved for years, has come up with a whole new way for our own families to make their way to the kitchen for a fresh, aromatic pastry.
Eggo has introduced Eggo Bake Shop™ Twists, its first microwaveable pastry that combines soft, pull-apart dough sprinkled with sugar crystals and delicious Strawberry or Apple filling made with real fruit. And, in just 2 minutes and 25 seconds, my family can enjoy a warm, bakery-like breakfast, without the run to the bakery. I tried out the Strawberry flavored one which I felt was really yummy, while my hubby preferred the warm, scented treat that was the Apple flavored one!

So now I can sit down with my family for a delicious breakfast before they scatter in different directions for an activity-packed day!

DVD - Max Fleischer's Gulliver's Travels

Max Fleischer's Gulliver's Travels
Blue Ray Version

In 1939, animation pioneers Max and Dave Fleischer (Betty Boop, Popeye, Superman) made motion picture history when Paramount Pictures released their masterpiece, Gulliver’s Travels, the second feature-length animated film produced by a U.S. studio.

Their staff toiled for over two years, using twelve tons of paint and 39,000 pencils to create over 639,000 celluloids and 115,000 composite scenes. The “gigantic” titular character was animated using rotoscoping, a process which involves tracing live-action footage frame-by-frame – one of several innovative animation techniques developed by the Fleischers and Fleischer Studios. Popular songs composed for the film include “All’s Well,” “It’s a Hap-Hap-Happy Day” and “Faithful Forever,” all of which later became well-known standards.

By the late 1990s this animated gem had sadly fallen into disrepair, but thanks to a close relationship with the Fleischer family, North Hampton Partners and animation expert Dr. Thomas R. Reich were able to secure a long-lost 35mm source print. State-of-the-art technology enabled the film to be meticulously revived, removing years of dirt and restoring damaged portions of the frames. Gulliver's Travels was then color corrected using 100% historically accurate palettes at Technicolor and was re-mastered for the first time ever in 16x9 (1080p High Definition).

This entire process was done frame-by-frame without stretching characters or losing any image beyond standard vertical safe areas – and the use of proprietary techniques actually enables more picture to be visible on the left and right sides of the frame than ever before. Additionally, the original soundtrack was fully restored and supplemented by two newly enhanced sound options (Dolby Digital and 5.1) utilizing multi-track Foley techniques. The bonus Fleischer documentary “The Making of a Cartoon” as well as the two Gabby cartoons featured on the DVD and Blu-ray (“Swing Cleaning” and “King for a Day”) were also restored, making Max Fleischer’s Gulliver’s Travels a must-own for fans of classic animation and children of all ages.

And now - Digitally restored and re-mastered using state-of-the-art technology, Max Fleischer’s song-filled, 1939 masterpiece comes to life for the first time ever in awe-inspiring high definition.

Richly drawn from the timeless tale by Jonathan Swift, Gulliver’s Travels follows the legendary adventures of a shipwrecked sailor among the tiny people of Lilliput. In this strange land, Gulliver brings peace to two feuding kingdoms and reunites a prince with his princess before returning to the sea in one of the most “hap-hap-happy” endings of all time.

Featuring breathtaking, newly-enhanced picture and sound, this definitive edition of Gulliver’s Travels is a feast for the eyes and ears that your whole family will enjoy for years to come.
