Yoplait Kids - Review and Giveaway

Created - 3/31/2009 48 Comments

Did you know research has shown that fewer than half of all kids ages two to 12 get the calcium they need each day? Calcium and Vitamin D are both essential nutrients for building strong bones. Though it can be challenging for growing kids to get Vitamin D, since it is found naturally in very few foods, Yoplait for Kids makes it a little easier to incorporate a delicious source of Vitamin D and Calcium in your child's diet.

Yoplait for Kids helps build strong bones, enabling healthy and active bodies. Perfect for a fun-filled day for your active children, the Yoplait Get Active Prize Pack includes a travel cooler (to take your yogurt on the road), a jump rope, a water bottle and an outdoor game set that includes a beach ball, paddle ball, Jai-Ali and a Frisbee.

PhotobucketGrowing Kids need more calcium and that's why I'm a big believer of giving my toddler lots of yogurt. So this time around, I got Kiddo YoPlait's Strawberry Yogurt! It has a smooth texture and yummyfruit flavors my toddler just loved, plus the calcium, vitamins and protein he needs. With so many nutritional benefits, there's a lot of love in every little cup and bottle of Yoplait Kids. And I can rest easy that he's getting something he loves to eat and which is healthy as well! Don't tell, but I've been known to dip a spoon once or more in YoPlait Kids yogurt and ooh, are they delicious!

Best of all - Yoplait for Kids contains 25 percent less sugar than the average of leading kids yogurts! Also, Yoplait Kids, created with a toddler's needs in mind, provides 16 mg of DHA in every serving. In other words, it's a healthy, nutritious snack that has put a big smile on the face of this Mom :)

Oh Happy Day: An All-Star Music Celebration

Created - 3/30/2009 0 Comments

In 1969 The Edwin Hawkins Singers scored a major pop hit with a rousing R&B flavored single called "Oh Happy Day." The song dominated multiple radio formats and would go on to become the first RIAA certified Gold Record in gospel music history. Featured on mainstream radio alongside other pop, rock and R&B hits of the day, "Oh Happy Day" reflected a new era of cross pollination between the Church and the world of popular music.

Now, forty years later, "Oh Happy Day," and other classic songs from hard-core gospel to feel-good pop are gathered together and celebrated by multiple generations of gospel music fans and practitioners, blurring all lines and celebrating the spirit of the songs. This special collection of brand new recordings of pop and gospel favorites by artists of multiple racial, denominational and stylistic backgrounds simultaneously celebrates gospel's roots, shines a light on its influence on the music of today, and points a faithful finger towards a future of continued and expanded influence on contemporary culture.

EMI Music/Vector Recordings is set to release the highly anticipated recording Oh Happy Day: An All-Star Music Celebration on March 31. The album features performances by 3 Doors Down, Al Green, Patty Griffin, Heather Headley, Jon Bon Jovi, Jonny Lang, Queen Latifah, Joss Stone with Buick Audra and many more (see below for full track listing). For the project, these world-renowned musicians collaborated with Gospel artists and several of today’s top Gospel Choirs to record renditions of some of the most loved and recognizable inspirational songs.

Track Listing:

1. Jonny Lang & the Fisk Jubilee Singers “I Believe”

2. 3 Doors Down & the Soul Children of Chicago “Presence of the Lord”

3. Robert Randolph & The Clark Sisters “Higher Ground”

4. Jon Bon Jovi & the Washington Youth Choir “Keep the Faith”

5. Al Green & Heather Headley “People Get Ready”

6. Mavis Staples & Patty Griffin “Waiting for My Child To Come Home”

7. Michael McDonald & the West Angeles COGIC Mass Choir “Storm Before The Calm”

8. Angelique Kidjo “Redemption Song”

9. Aaron Neville & the Mt. Zion Mass Choir “A Change is Gonna Come”

10. Queen Latifah & Jubilation “Oh Happy Day”

11. Joss Stone & Buick Audra “This Little Light Of Mine”

“Keep the Faith” is my favorite as is “This Little Light Of Mine”. Check out Oh Happy Day: An All-Star Music Celebration for yourself and let me know which track caught your ear or if they all did, as it's likely to :)

Making Life Better

Created - 3/26/2009 0 Comments

"I am starving! What's for dinner?! " is the main question of the day in my house. But, when dinnertime rolls around and I still don't have the answer to this question, I could use a little meal inspiration. With more moms like me preparing meals at home, keeping dinner ideas fresh, easy to prepare and budget-friendly presents some challenges.

Unilever, the consumer package goods company, has spent a great deal of time thinking about how to make everyday life better and help us find ways to create great meals and do more with less. The company's Web site, www.MakingLifeBetter.com, features delicious recipes, affordable meal ideas and tips that stretch your budget and save you time. From Baked Pasta Primavera Casserole to Fresh Vegetables over Couscous, the secret to dinner success in my home is to keep a well-stocked kitchen filled with easy-to-prepare, delicious pantry staples with brands I know and trust.

I've bookmarked www.MakingLifeBetter.com, and here are a few of the great ideas I've found:

Photobucket
Banana Surprise

    * 1 banana, halved lengthwise
    * 1 Tbsp. Skippy ® Creamy or Super Chunk ® Peanut Butter
    * 1 tsp. raisins

With teaspoon, slightly hollow the inside of one of the banana halves. Evenly spread Skippy® Creamy Peanut Butter down the center. Sprinkle with raisins, then top with remaining banana half. Microwave at HIGH 15 seconds or until slightly warm.

**********

Black Bean & Corn Salsa

  • 1/4 cup Hellmann's® or Best Foods® Light Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp. lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 can (19 oz.) black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (11 oz.) whole kernel corn, drained
  • 1 cup quartered grape tomatoes or cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tsp. chopped jalapeno pepper (optional)
Combine Hellmann's® or Best Foods® Light Mayonnaise, lime juice and cumin in medium bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Serve chilled or at room temperature. Also terrific with Hellmann's® or Best Foods® Low Fat Mayonnaise Dressing or Canola Cholesterol Free Mayonnaise.
**********
Asiago Toasts
  • 1/3 cup Hellmann's® or Best Foods® Mayonnaise Dressing with Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 cup shredded Asiago or Parmesan-Reggiano cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves, crushed (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped flat-leaf parsley (optional)
  • 1/2 French baguette, cut into 18 slices
Combine all ingredients except baguette in small bowl. Arrange baguette slices in a single layer on baking sheet; spread cheese mixture on baguette. Broil until the cheese is melted and golden, about 3 minutes. Also terrific with Hellmann's or Best Food Real or Light Mayonnaise.

**********

I loved the recipes and tips and I'm sure you will too. But that's not all. You can get a variety of ideas and tips about Beauty, Home, Wellness, News and many other things. It's a great resource for everyone. So go check out www.MakingLifeBetter.com today!

DVD Giveaway - The Bielski Brothers

Created - 3/25/2009 96 Comments

The Bielski Brothers

Purchase it here

Description:
During the darkest hours of World War II, three Russian brothers achieved the impossible: they transformed persecution and violence into an incredible tale of affirmation and survival. Living in the Soviet Republic of Belorussia, Tuvia, Asael and Zus Bielski fled to the woods to escape the Nazis. There they built an elaborate village for rescued Jews. The forest haven included a bakery, communal bath, synagogue, and even a theater company. Although they mounted guerrilla attacks against the enemy, their priority was saving their people. Tuvia often declared he would "rather save one old Jewish woman than kill ten Nazis."

The Bielskis saved 1,200 men, women, and children--easily the largest rescue of Jews by Jews during World War II--but until now their story has gone largely untold.

Including interviews with Bielski Brigade survivors in the United States, Israel, and Great Britain, HISTORY recognizes three of the greatest heroes of the Holocaust.

DVD Giveaway - The Great Depression

Created - 3/25/2009 88 Comments

The Great Depression

Purchase link
Description:
THE GREAT DEPRESSION was a time of dashed dreams, shattering losses, and abject poverty. But it was also a time that proved America's resilience.

In the first years of the Great Depression, banks and businesses failed in record numbers as America struggled to come to grips with the disaster.

In this illuminating 4-part series from HISTORY, examine the changes that swept the shaken nation, from the landslide victory of FDR in 1932, to the California migrations of Dust Bowl farmers, in "The Great Shake-Up."

Faced with hard times, Americans sought release wherever they could find it, from marathon dancing to going to the movies. "Face the Music" uses extensive film clips and photos to show how the media came of age to become an integral part of daily life.

As the Depression lingered and the New Deal failed to live up to people's expectations, some Americans fought back against a system they felt had betrayed them. In "Striking Back," rare footage and revealing interviews relive the desperate acts of people who had been pushed too far by the crisis. Finally, "Desperate Measures" shows how the approach of World War II did what all the protests and recovery programs failed to do -- end the Great Depression.

    SnugFits - Review and Giveaway!

    Created - 3/24/2009 109 Comments

    Photobucket
Today I'd like to introduce you to a young company with wonderful clothing for children that I discovered on one of my web forays - Snugfits!

Snugfits is a unique line of modern baby onesies and cool tees with bold messages of love, laughter, wit, cultural pride, political affiliation and special interest. Founder and designer Sara Reider has taken her knack for graphic design and typography online with the launch of www.snugfits.com, creating designer apparel for babies and toddlers that is expressive, both in thought and design. Reider offers a wide selection of onesies, shirts, hats and pants that can be customized to suit shoppers’ preferences in fabric color, ink color, sleeve length and size (preemie up to 18-24 months).

What I loved is Snugfits' unique style of utfitting kiddos in a spirited fashion — enthusiastically, proudly and humourously... expressing the unique character of each child. Well, let’s be honest - the parent, too!Who said that getting your child dressed each day had to be boring and unimaginative? Something to raise a few eyebrows. Initiate a conversation. What better, right?!

Not just that. They want to do so in nothing but the highest quality threads. Thick and soft — substantial. Something to last, even pass down. Something that doesn’t look like it was grabbed off the rack at a discount store. Something special... And that’s exactly what Snugfits has done!

Some design examples are “mama’s boy,” “still breastfeeding,” “natural immunity,” “recovering colic” and “organic baby.” There are also creative collections just for twins, triplets and preemies. Snugfits will continue to introduce new styles and designs to their line as fresh ideas grow and old ones are rejuvenated. There are also plans to create additional lines for older kids and expecting moms. In addition to clean, contemporary fashion, Snugfits aims to provide support to new parents. Reider along with husband Brett, has created her own parenting blog - designed to share down to earth thoughts, tips and stories… anything having to do with being a parent.

PhotobucketI received the "iBaby" - kinda like those things by Apple Computer, Inc - in yellow. It's so cute and soft, you won't believe it! I so look forward to dressing the little one I'm expecting soon, in it, for its sure to look gorgeous in that luxuriously soft and stretchy onesie.

Snugfits can be found in several boutiques across the U.S. and Canada, or by visiting the company’s website at www.snugfits.com. Priced at $20.00 with free shipping in the USA, the onesies and baby tees are perfect for a baby shower, birthday or holiday gift and can be gift wrapped in a reusable organza drawstring bag upon request.  Further information about Snugfits baby apparel may be obtained by making contact through the website or by calling (910) 447-0120.

Note - 10% of their proceeds are donated to Surfers Healing, a foundation that is very near and dear to their hearts.

Windex Outdoor Window & Surface Cleaner - Review

    Created - 3/23/2009 0 Comments

PhotobucketHome is where the heart is and for this SAHM, that means a lot of heart and hard work goes into maintaining and cleaning said Home. And that's easier said that done! Where I live, Spring is well in the air. The Trees have lost their naked look, bulbs are blossoming and the days are getting sunnier every day.

PhotobucketAnd the more Sun coming in thru my windows, the more I realized the imminent possibility of cleaning said windows. Usually I like this task as there's nothing quite as satisfying as getting that glass clean and shining. But now that I'm in the last trimester of my pregnancy, this labor-intensive task (pun intended!) has never felt more difficult!

So, you can imagine my joy when I was offered an opportunity to try out SC Johnson's latest innovative product - the Windex™ Outdoor All-in-One. Reason - this glass cleaning tool provides a faster, easier way to clean outdoor windows. No more climbing ladders or leaning out open windows.

And that worked out perfectly for me! I just followed the simple instructions and had my windows clean as possible. A heartfelt - WOW! That's the easiest time I've ever had cleaning windows

With Windex™ Outdoor All-in-One, say goodbye to hand-drying. This is due to Windex's® Special Sheeting Action Formula that prevents streaks and spotting.

    • Clean 20 windows† with a single pad! (refills available)

    • Reach up to 11 ft. so you can safely and easily tackle tough outdoor grime without the hassle of using a ladder.

Cleans outdoor windows in just 3 easy steps:

SPRAY window and cleaning pad with garden hose.
    WIPE window with cleaning pad.
RINSE window with garden hose. No need to hand dry.

Give Windex™ Outdoor All-in-One a try this Spring and see for yourself why I'm loving it!

This post was written for Family Review Network as part of a program by SC Johnson, who also supplied the product for review.

    Veggie Adventures

    Created - 3/20/2009 0 Comments

If you remember, I'd earlier blogged about the makers of Hidden Valley® Salad Dressings who'd created the Love Your Veggies™ campaign to help children develop a life-long love of vegetables through activities at home, at school and in the community.

    Photobucket

As part of their continued effort to help parents and educators overcome the challenges of getting children to eat their vegetables, the makers of Hidden Valley Salad Dressings have now created Veggie Adventures, a free online game that can be played now at www.loveyourveggies.com/games. Keeping in mind a recent study that indicated that 60 percent of parents play computer games with their kids, the makers of Hidden Valley Dressings hope Veggie Adventures will be yet another tool for moms to utilize to expand their young children's appreciation for vegetables.

Veggie Adventures engages families in a three-part vegetable adventure that begins with growing vegetables on the farm and ends with serving and sharing vegetables with friends. Along with fun and easy game-play, Veggie Adventures provides players with great tips and vegetable facts meant to be transplanted outside of the gaming experience. At the end of each stage, players receive a printable certificate to commemorate their success.

There are three easy and fun games, each with a facility for user login, scoring and saving your game. And which are pretty fast loading with pleasing graphics. The first game 'At the Farm' is naturally, growing your veggies and protecting them from critters. Second 'On the Road' is for taking the veggies to the market safely. And the third (which I was unable to play for some reason) is 'In The Kitchen'. While playing children get a sense of what it takes to grow, transport and ultimately prepare vegetables for a tasty meal. Fun and Healthy - what could be better? And it's never too early to instill good eating habits, right?

So, do go and check out Veggie Adventures at www.loveyourveggies.com/games. Thanks to Mom Central for introducing me to these fun games!

    DVD - Happily N'Ever After 2

    Created - 3/18/2009 0 Comments

Happily N'Ever After 2: Snow White

    Synopsis

Fairy tales collide when Mambo and Munk tip the scales of good and evil once again. This time Princess Snow White is a misguided teenager who’d rather have fun with friends Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and Little Bo Peep than help peasants. When Snow White’s father is matched up with Lady Vain - a scheming witch brewing to rule the kingdom - Snow White becomes a thorn in Lady Vain’s side.

Snow White is soon tricked by Lady Vain (with Rumpelstiltskin’s help) into spreading vicious gossip about the townspeople, forcing her to flee. Through rebuilding the three little pigs’ houses with the seven dwarves leading the way, Snow White learns the value of helping others. Only Snow White can foil her dad’s wedding to stop Lady Vain. With Mambo and Munk in tow, Snow White proves she can rule the kingdom, while bringing balance back to the scales of good and evil.

Happily N'Ever After 2: Snow White is a new twist on the classic tale of Snow White and The Seven Dwarves. The DVD is a sequel to “Happily N’Ever After”, the CGI-Animated theatrical release. Everyone’s favorite characters have returned in Happily N'Ever After 2 including the Seven Dwarves, Rumpelstiltskin, and the hilariously funny break-out characters, Mambo and Munk, back in the role as the Wizard’s assistants responsible for managing the balance of good and evil in Fairy Tale Land. Just like the original, Happily N'Ever After 2 follows everyone’s favorite fairy tales turned upside down in a funny, fast-paced adventure. While I enjoyed this twisted take on a classic tale and the antics of the various characters, it wasn't that understandable to my kid who is more used to the traditional Snow White and the Seven Dwarves tales in his Disney books.

    DVD SPECIAL FEATURES*

    Includes 3 Interactive Games:
    • Red Riding Hood Challenge : Using Red’s basket of goodies, test your cunning vision to see if you can keep track of the different kinds of pastries that come and go in a limited amount of time.
    • Bo Peep and the Sheep : Outsmart the Ogre in a game of Odd Sheep Out. The Ogre will present several visual Challenges that involve Bo Peep’s sheep.
    • Snow White and the Great Hall : Using hints and tips from Mambo and Munk, make your way down the great hall – all the while Rumpelstiltskin will try to blast dark magic at you by aiming the Mirror in your direction.
*Special features subject to change. Special features not rated.

    Ballas Hough Band

    Created - 3/17/2009 0 Comments

Anyone who's given the hit TV series Dancing With the Stars even a cursory glance knows the names Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. Since 2006, the two professional ballroom dancers both led their celebrity partners to victory in successive seasons, trading in months of grueling practice and competition for one highly coveted Mirror Ball trophy. "I love to entertain people," says Mark, who took the crown on season 6 with Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi (Derek won in season 7 with Brooke Burke). "Seeing people smile and enjoy themselves, that's what I live for."

But entertaining audiences never took one form for Mark or Derek. The two best friends have been playing and making music together for more than a decade, in between touring theatrical productions and ballroom competitions. And like every achievement they've crossed off their collective to-do list, a career in music was a dream they worked towards tirelessly. "

The Ballas Hough Band, features  fan favorites Mark Ballas and Derek Hough on vocals and guitar, Emily Grace on keyboards and vocals, bassist Sam Marder and drummer Harry Sullivan. In addition to their own originals, the album features collaborations with songwriters Dan Wilson, Kevin Kadish and Marty James on several tracks. Lead single “Do It For You” was co-written by new “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, Marty James and Ari Levine, and mixed by Serban Ghenea (Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, NERD).

About the band, Derek says, "I’m sure that people’s first reaction to us will be, 'These dancing guys think they can play guitar now?' But after seeing us play, they'll realize that this is not a Hollywood move to make a quick buck. At our shows, it's always the guys — who were probably dragged out by their girlfriends — who'll come up to us and say, 'Man, you guys can play.' Eventually, people will come to know that we can shred on guitar, rip on the bass, that our drummer had a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, that our piano player is trained as well as any Julliard graduate, and that we're five kids who've grown up together and know each other inside and out, and have been playing together for years."

Following the spring season of "Dancing with the Stars," the band will embark on a summer tour across the U.S. More information can be found at www.Myspace.com/ballashoughband

The track listing for BHB is as follows:

       1. Do You Love Me
       2. Devastated
       3. Closer
       4. She Was The One
       5. Longing For
       6. Birthday
       7. Fall
       8. Do It For You
       9. Breakthrough
      10. Together Faraway
      11. Underwater

Of the songs that aren't BHB originals, the first single, "Do It For You," was co-written by new American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi and makes for the perfect introduction to the band's pop sensibilities. And it's one of my personal favorites!

    Stride Rite Shoes - Review

    Created - 3/11/2009 3 Comments

    Photobucket

Most of you may need no introduction to Stride Rite, the leading brand of premium children's footwear in the US for over 85 years! All this time, they've been refining upon engineering footwear designed specifically for the feet of growing young children.

    Photobucket

These were some of the reasons I was very happy when Stride Rite sent over 2 pairs for review consideration. One was the Rio from their New Arrivals and the other was true classic, the Skip from their popular pre-walkers selection.

The Rio is something my son just loved! And why not?!

PhotobucketPart of the PlayGround Collection, there's a little extra spunk and flavor in this sporty pair. Whether he's exploring the world or his own backyard, antimicrobial lining, flexible outsoles and moisture-wicking technology will keep his feet comfy, dry and fancy-free.
    • Leather/mesh upper
    • Hook-and-loop closure for adjustability
    • New lightweight, flexible outsole
    • Antimicrobial lining for fresh feet
    • Machine washable (air dry only) and moisture wicking
Kiddo walked and ran, indoors and out in them with perfect balance. That he didn't start trying to take them off within the first 5 minutes, was proof enough of their comfort level, as my little man is very particular there. "Tite" is his word for discomfort and I didn't hear them when he wore his new pair of Rios! Kiddo is tough on his shoes and they don't last very long. But the Rios are roomy enough to look like they'll carry him thru Summer and perhaps even into Fall!

PhotobucketLil' Skip, on the other hand, is one I look forward to putting my baby's feet in as it promises to be gentle and cozy for those newborn, untouched heels!

Made for crawling, the sporty Lil' Skip is enhanced with ultra-comfortable Natural Motion System™ to give tiny, growing feet the protection they need as they explore the world for the very first time. Designed to mimic barefoot walking, these sandals have a flexible stride path and natural propulsion that babies need to grow into strong walkers.
    • Leather (White and Classic Navy) or Nubuck (Brown) upper
    • Leather linings for breathability
    • T-strap closure for easy on/off
    • Padded collar to protect those tender heels
    • Natural Motion System™ for superior fit and support
    • Stage 1 - Supple, protective footwear for tiny growing feet.

If you can't find a StrideRite retailer near you (just use the store locator feature) and you're worried about sizes while buying online - don't be! Stride Rite has come with E-fit - a special feature that will help you find just what you're looking for in 4 easy steps!

Stride Rite put it best when they say their motto is : Life's Waiting, Let's Go!

I'm a fan now! Go ahead - Try Stride Rite today, if you haven't already.

Already have a pair of Stride Rites in your home? Leave a comment with your thoughts on this brand name! I look forward to hearing from you.
