Lift and Look: Things that Go - From SoftPlay for Kids

Created - 12/28/2009 0 Comments

SoftPlay Books - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryFrom personal experience I've seen that it's never too early to start teaching a kid. With that philosophy, I bought my son his first SoftPlay book when he was around 6 months of age and he just loved it. Unfortunately we lost that beloved book while traveling. But since that time, I've become a firm fan of SoftPlay's ever-growing line of award-winning books and interactive products.

My son, who's currently in love with all things that move (especially cars and trains) totally loved one of their new Lift and Look soft foam books - Things that Go! He had great fun learning by lifting out the soft, lift-out pieces that are featured the book and which reveal other things that go (in the air, on water, on wheels, etc)!  The shiny, foil-enhanced pictures and fun, interactive approach to learning are not only delightful but also keeps my active little son busy - and quiet - for quite a while!

SoftPlay products can be found at a variety of mass market and specialty retailers or ordered direct via www.softplayforkids.com. New titles and formats are created each year, complementing an active backlist of evergreen titles.

Keep Kids Feet Warm and Safe with Stonz Wear

Created - 12/22/2009 1 Comments

Stonz Wear - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's Diary

One of the things I worry about taking my kids out in the cold winter weather is keeping their feet warm. I can cover their bodies with warm clothes, but thicker socks mean their feet don't always fit in their shoes. And when there's snow or rain outside, those little feet can get cold pretty quick! My son especially loves splashing in puddles, so this is a very real concern for me.

Solution - Foul weather Booties from Stonz Wear! These are essentially wide-mouthed water and wind resistant nylon booties than be slipped over regular kid's shoes to keep them warm and safe in all kinds of inclement weather. The inside is lined with fleece, so warmth is a given. There are adjustable toggles at the calf and ankle that can be tightened to further ensure snugness. The soles are skid-resistant, so come snow or rain, my little one won't slip and fall due to these booties. They're available in a wide variety of styles and colors. And come in sizes newborn to 2.5 years, and in select styles up to size 2-4 years.

Stonz Wear - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's Diary
That's not all. They also have a great selection of Hats and mittens for babies, toddlers and children to ensure an overall comfort for the little ones.

Make a Splash with Outdoor Curtains

Created - 12/19/2009 1 Comments

As I mentioned in a previous post, changing curtains is an easy and inexpensive means of Home decor. That goes for inside as well as the outside. Outdoor curtains bring shade, privacy and a bit of decorative flair to outdoor settings. So, whether you're interested for practical reasons or want to bring some atmosphere to your porch or patio, outdoor curtains are something to try.

We get a lot of sun, too much at times on our patio and I decided to research outdoor curtains. As always, I headed to Shop.com, a great shopping comparison site specifically designed for women! The search promptly me netted pages upon pages of options, gathered from all over the web. I really like this one :

So, if you're looking for some curtains or even holiday gifts, at a price that fits your wallet, then make Shop.com your first stop. Did I mention, it's absolutely FREE to use?! Be sure to visit them and tell me your thoughts.

Stylish Children's Shoes for every budget - Bugaloo

Created - 12/18/2009 4 Comments

Bugaloo Shoes - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryShoes are a must and frequent buy when you have growing kids in the house. That doesn't mean I should go bankrupt trying to keep my kids feet warm, safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, cheaper shoes don't always make the cut, both looks and comfort-wise. That's where Bugaloo Shoes comes in! In fact that's their whole philosophy:
Bugaloo is a company with aspirations to greatness. It is the brainchild of a young graphic designer valiantly attempting to circumvent the 9am-5pm drudgery and her brother, who excels in marketing. The philosophy behind my creative endeavor is quite simple:
  1. Quality baby shoes should cost under $20.
  2. Baby shoes should not only be cute, but unique and trendy as well.
  3. Donate 5% of each sale to the International Justice Mission, an organization that fights sex and slave trafficking across the world.
My kid's feet are warm and comfortable this holiday season in the Bluebirds shoes and here are some reasons why I Love these great shoes :
  • Beautiful Designs - they're designed with meticulous care and peerless aesthetic sensibilities. And the designs are just delightful and very novel!
  • Handcrafted Creativity - Bugaloo hires trained seamstresses to handcraft each shoe to only the highest standards. It’s more than a shoe, it’s a piece of dedicated art.
  • Well Priced - Bugaloo's low overhead, no middlemen, and non-existent marketing budget = wonderfully low cost shoes for us!
  • Good for growing Feet - Recommended by medical experts and the smart alternative to restrictive hard soles, Bugaloo soft soles allow for proper balance and foot development.

Great deals on Comforters via Shop.com

Created - 12/17/2009 1 Comments

Photobucket Pictures, Images and PhotosHolidays mean guests. And when I have people over, I get over-busy making sure everything is neat and nice, the decorations all spic and span, the floors spotless and so on. Especially the guest bedroom which I love to spruce up so my guests are comfortable and at the same time, impressed :) Since the spare comforter was looking a bit shabby, this year I thought I'd get something new. And as is my habit now, I went to Shop.com to see who had the best deals around.

As you probably know, Shop.com is a shopping comparison site specifically designed for women! They have great tools to help us figure out what to buy, find recommendations, and pinpoint which stores have the best price.

While browsing I searched for Chris Madden Comforters which are always great buy for any occasion, providing elegance and being not too expensive at the same time. The results took me from ebay to JC Penny and more. Here are some of the choices I was able to find :

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos  Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox Extension  Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox Extension

I at once fell in love with the first one above, with its regal and pristine off-white color and the decorative scrollwork embroidery which adds texture, depth and even more visual interest to not just the bed, but the overall room. I know my guests will be impressed! What about yours?

Find something for any place or any body and for the best price around using Shop.com. Did I mention, it's absolutely FREE to use?! Be sure to visit them and tell me your thoughts.

FoldTuk - Revolutionary Collapsible Bakeware

Created - 12/17/2009 115 Comments

Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox Extension Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox Extension

As my family grows, my Kitchen seems to be shrinking. Storage is huge problem. All those dishes and not enough space to put them all in. There's microveable dishes, bakeware, etc etc. I've often imagined of a day when dishes could be just folded and put away, just like linens. Guess what? That day's here!
FoldTuk is actually the first and only collapsible bakeware that can be used in conventional, convection, infrared, and microwave ovens due to its Green and petroleum free Ceramber material. It is airtight, stackable, dishwasher safe, and naturally nonstick (No non-stick coating applied), making it your most functional bakeware and cold storage container.
I received thePhotobucket FoldTuk Rectangular Collapsible Bakeware and Storage Container in Orange for review. It's supposed to be used virtually anywhere - oven, freezer, microwave. You name it! So I decided to put it to test.

First I used it to microwave vegetables to serve my kids. It worked great. Then I decided to use the same dish to make lasagna in. Just got my sauce and lasagna noodles all ready and then popped it in the Foldtuk dish. But I didn't oil the bottom like I usually do because this material is supposed to be naturally non-stick. Then stuck it in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. I was worried that despite its claims, it might melt or burn in the oven. But it survived intact and so did my lasagna! It came out perfect and I served it right out of the dish. I also used this dish to store the leftovers in the freezer, where again it survived the intense cold. And all I had to do to clean it was, toss it in the dishwasher - simple. And to store it, I just pressed it down almost flat and then stuck it vertically in between my other dishes. It took up less than 1/4th the space of any one single piece of my conventional bakeware. I really have to ask Santa to bring more of these fantastic dishes by this Holiday season!

I just love my new FoldTuk Collapsible Bakeware and to sum up, here are the reasons why :
  • Oven bakeware and microwave safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Collapsible to 1 inch
  • Naturally Non-Stick
  • Airtight storage container
  • Transfers heat more evenly than silicone or conventional glass bake ware products
  • Easy to see through body and storage lid
  • Prepare, Bake, microware, serve and Store all in 1 container
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Made of proprietary food grade material called Ceramber
  • Due to FoldTuk's self-supportive design, it doesn't lose its shape like other silicone bakeware
  • FoldTuk goes from deep freeze directly into cooking oven with no risk of shattering.
  • FoldTuk is available in a wide spectrum of colors to compliment various personal styles

Would you like to win a Foldtuk of your own?!

What Time Is It? From SoftPlay

Created - 12/16/2009 0 Comments

SoftPlay Books - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryFrom personal experience I've seen that it's never too early to start teaching a kid. With that philosophy, I bought my son his first SoftPlay book when he was around 6 months of age and he just loved it. Unfortunately we lost it while traveling. But since that time, I've become a firm fan of SoftPlay's ever-growing line of award-winning books and interactive products.
SoftPlay is the leading producer of early language development interactive cloth books and felt playsets for infants and toddlers. Each product SoftPlay offers is designed to emphasize classic play patterns and early language development. By keeping these important focuses at the core of everything they do, SoftPlay helps children ages birth to age five learn, explore and discover as they play. SoftPlay works in partnership with noted child development expert, Dr. Carol Andrew whose research on child development provides a valuable foundation for her work with SoftPlay and she uses SoftPlay products with her patients.

At SoftPlay, we believe that learning can be fun.
SoftPlay Books - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryMy son is currently in his rebellious phase and tantrums and time-outs are becoming a regular feature. Not to surprisingly, this has sparked an interest in him trying to tell time on his own by looking at the clock (all so he can figure out when his time out period is up and he can get back to his mischief - I know, I can tell!). But spotting the sliver lining, and an opportunity to teach him something new, I introduced him to SoftPlay'sWhat Time Is It? book.

SoftPlay Books - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryThe big book has a brightly colored play clock in the center (two moveable hands and all) and pages which below in which a child is taught everything from minutes, the movements of the hands, what it means as the clock moves from one number to another and more. There are also multiple time disks provided in which a clock is shown pointing to all the different times. To make it interactive, questions are posed to the young reader in subsequent pages and to answer them, a child to locate the correct disk and place it in the empty clock face.

My son is a little young to learn all this, so for now I'm just using this book to teach him the hours using the moveable hands which are quite fun! When he's a little older (this book is meant for ages 3+), I plan to use it to teach him hours, minutes, seconds and all the rest it.

Holiday Pick - Palumba Toys

Created - 12/15/2009 1 Comments

Holidays mean gifts and gifts for kids automatically mean Toys. If you're tired of giving or getting buzzing, beeping, honking, racing, flashing, battery-operated toys time and again, then it's time to check out Palumba Toys.

About Palumba :
Palumba sells natural, award-winning USA made wooden toys and Fair Trade Waldorf dolls, non-toxic art supplies from Stockmar, playsilks, and many other products designed to foster creative play and imaginative play in children. Our selection of safe and natural toys includes many items exclusive to Palumba. We believe in fair, competitive pricing and strive for 100% customer satisfaction.

We are PALUMBA: A Magical Children's World Dedicated to the "WHOLE" child.
Palumba Toys - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryThe Hardwood Stacker - Circles I got to check out is ideal for a growing baby whose curiosity always begins with the mouth. It's sanded satin smooth and a light beeswax and Original beeswax finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood. And, I don't need to panic when my baby puts it in her mouth, sucks it or chews it thoughtfully with her toothless-gums. Moreover, this Maple and Walnut Stacking Set promotes imagination while building fine motor skills for both infants and toddlers. The blocks can be arranged in any configuration on the column which allows children to develop creativity and pattern recognition. These stackers are also available in square and triangle shapes.

Palumba Toys - Featured at A Bookworm Mom's DiaryThe Slow Race: Book & Puzzle set is simple, yet extremely clever and loads of fun for all! The story was designed to introduce some of the ways in which three simple shapes can be organized to form a wide variety of people, animals and objects. This is not only fun, but also deeply educational, as it increases the capacity for both creativity and geometric thinking. While reading the story, children and adults alike arrange and fit the blocks in the shapes pictured. After reading the story a new story of ones own can be made by tracing new shapes on paper and creating ones own book. From flowers to animals to the moon, the creation of objects is limited only by the imagination. Not to mention, it's a great way for the family to spend time together, flexing their mental muscles without the aid of any electronics.

These are just some of the many thoughtful and thought-provoking toys and items available at Palumba  including, but not limited to, clothes, books, toys, music, arts & crafts etc. I also loved their video section where you can actually see how and where the toys are made, how to care for wooden toys and more. And great deals are to be found in their Sale section.

To sum up, here are the reasons why I love them (besides the main reason, the battery-less toys!)
  • Handmade children's items created from ALL-NATURAL materials.
  • Over 80% of their toys are made in the USA.
  • The others are crafted in Fair Trade Cooperatives.
  • ALL of their toys are made without any toxins or unsafe parts.
  • They are all of heirloom quality and crafted with "green" technology, care and integrity.
  • The items they offer enable children to use their imagination and take flight.

Living Christmas Trees

Created - 12/13/2009 3 Comments

I know of people who decorate live trees outside but to have a living one delivered to your home?! To in fact, RENT one?! Well, that was a new one for me!
Photobucket Pictures, Images and PhotosThe Living Christmas Company (www.livingchristmas.com) is a Los Angeles based business that provides eco-friendly options for the holiday season, including a tree-rental program where living Christmas trees are rented by a Los Angeles family for the holiday season (the trees are alive, fresh and potted – not cut – and are delivered to/from a home or office) and maintained throughout the year for use in the next holiday season – a very sustainable way of celebrating the holidays.

With the revamped website’s new interactive features, fun holiday humor and easy to use online ordering system (customers choose delivery and pick up dates), this is the first living Christmas tree rental company in the nation to handle orders through the web. Of course, customers can still expect Santa hat clad “elves” to show up for tree delivery and pick up.

Upcoming Movie - To Save a Life

Created - 12/11/2009 2 Comments

SYNOPSIS:

Ever since Jake Taylor was a kid, he was the type of guy you couldn’t help but like. For Jake, life is good. He has a ton of friends, a basketball scholarship, a hot girlfriend and a really bright future. Not much to get down about, right?

Enter Roger Dawson. He was Jake’s childhood best friend before Jake’s growing popularity pushed him out. Tired of not fitting in and having a place to belong, Roger walks onto campus and, with a gun in his pocket and pain in his heart, makes a tragic move.

Jake is devastated by what Roger has done, and something in him changes. In seeking answers in his own life, one question plagues him the most: Could I have saved him? He finds himself deeply compelled to reach out to kids on the fringe – kids who aren’t viewed as cool enough. But this decision among other things, threatens Jake’s world. Great deals on Shower Curtains

Created - 12/10/2009 0 Comments

Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox ExtensionMy toddler is growing up fast and now has an opinion on everything :

Daddy's favorite shirt - "ratty".
Mom's signature dish - "Grandma's was better".

I beg to differ! But the one thing we both agree on is that our guest bathroom desperately needs a makeover. What's dragging down the whole tone of that room is the outdated shower curtain, bought when we first moved into this house. I know, high time for a change! But not the bright yellow Spongebob curtain which was my son's choice.

Rather, I went looking for the best deal online for shower curtains. Rather than Google and sift through the millions of hits, I let Shop.com do all the work. This shopping comparison site is specifically designed for women! And they have great tools to help shoppers, male or female, figure out what to buy, find recommendations, and pinpoint which stores have the best price.

My search garnered these gems from places as varied as Amazon, Target, Overstock.com and many, many more besides :

And now I have do the real hard work and choose from among hundreds of stellar choices, brand names and for the price that best fits my budget!

Find something for any place or any body and for the best price around using Shop.com. Did I mention, it's absolutely FREE to use?! Be sure to visit them and tell me your thoughts.

Shipping made Easy with FedEx

Created - 12/10/2009 2 Comments

Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox ExtensionHolidays are the one time of the year I miss my being with my extended family which is scattered all over the world. And with the different time zones and the distances, we don't get to connect as frequently as we'd like. Parcels and care packages are one of the ways we still keep in touch. And the service we all love to use and which has proved truly reliable time and again is none other than FedEx!

This Holiday season, FedEx offers ways to save time and money with discounts that make FedEx one of the cheapest options this December. For example, when you sign-up on fedex.com, you can save up to 16% on FedEx Express services and 8% on FedEx Ground and Home Delivery. And, by visiting a FedEx Office location, shipping with FedEx Ground costs 10% less than with UPS.

For those awkward sizes, fragile items, or time-strapped packers, FedEx Office professionals can pack and ship my holiday packages for me or give me tips on how to minimize the size and weight of a package to reduce shipping costs at any of the locations nationwide. This is especially true when I want to send packages containing fragile items or gifts chosen with special care. FedEx Office also offers customized holiday cards, stationery and personalized 2010 calendars in just minutes either online or in-store. Also, with FedEx Office Print Online services, I can print holiday newsletters and cards to a nearby center of my choice or have them delivered to my friends and family hassle-free.

Bonus! Currently, anyone who signs up for a free account on fedex.com and records their name and confirmation number here: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB229YSQDALUE, will be entered to win one of 5 Apple iPod Touches! This opportunity is open to everyone, so feel free to sign up and tell all your friends and family about it. I did!

Disclosure - I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of FedEx and received a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

DVD - Spongebob : Truth or Square

Created - 12/09/2009 0 Comments

SpongeBob SquarePants: Truth or Square

SpongeBob SquarePants has gotten himself into quite a predicament. After being entrusted by Mr. Krabs to keep the Krabby Patty formula safe, SpongeBob is overcome with grief for losing the recipe. He then relies on the help of the most unlikely companion, Plankton, who wants the secret Krabby Patty recipe for himself.

With the help of his friends, SpongeBob must use Plankton’s memory machine to retrace the happiest moments of his life to find the Krabby Patty formula in time for the Krusty Krab’s Eleventy Seventh anniversary.

As with any Spongebob story, this is also full of entertainment and laughter for kids. Plankton is one of the best villains around, second only to Mini-me in those Austin Powers movies. If you're looking for a way to keep the kids engaged indoors during the winter, this one will surely provide ample distrastion.

Dvd - Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Created - 12/08/2009 0 Comments

History is larger than life—and twice as funny—in this monumental comedy sequel that’s “better than the original” (At the Movies)! Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast (including Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Hank Azaria and Robin Williams) as Larry Daley, a former night watchman at the Museum of Natural History, where the exhibits come to life after dark. But now Larry’s nocturnal friends are being retired to the archives of the Smithsonian Institution, luring him back for a hilarious, all-out battle against museum misfits who plan to take over the Smithsonian...and the world!

I only recently saw the first movie of this series and had great fun. So it was a special treat to watch the sequel just days later. To be frank, this one was far more entertaining, adventurous and even had me laughing out loud time and again. I especially loved the bobble-headed Einsteins, Amelia Earhart and Khamunrah was an absolute hoot for a villain. Hank Azaria, who portrays Khamunrah, speaks in a plummy, upper-class British accent that, coming out of the mouth of someone who's supposedly a long-dead Egyptian prince re-animated, had me in splits. I almost wish he'd said "a spot of tea" or "pip pip" or some such to make it all the more funny.

The limited edition “Monkey Mischief” double DVD boasts a second disc including over 30 minutes of entertainment complimenting the bonus materials featured on the first disc, including cast and crew commentary, six deleted scenes with an alternate ending, a gag reel, and more.

If you're looking for some stocking stuffers, then make this dvd combo pack one of them. You and your entire family can sit and watch this together and have fun!

Disclosure - No other compensation was provided except for the complimentary product.

A New TV show I'm looking forward to...

Created - 12/04/2009 0 Comments

This has been one interesting Fall season of TV. One of my favorite shows, Monk, is ending. Many other promising new ones (The Good Wife, White Collar, Modern Family, etc) have started. With the looming Holiday season, you wouldn't think a new series is going to be started now. But there is and it's one I've been looking forward to - for it stars one of my favorite TV stars, Ray Romano!

That's right, I'm talking about "Men of a Certain Age", the new TNT show that will premiere Monday, December 7 at 10/9c.

Men Of A Certain AgeJohn Lennon once wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” For three men entering the second act of their lives, those words are starting to hit home. The show follows three longtime friends - played by Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond) Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street) – as they navigate the changes and challenges of mid-life.

Men Of A Certain AgeMEN OF A CERTAIN AGE explores the unique bonds of male friendship among three men experiencing the changes and challenges of mid-life. They have been best friends since college but now, in their 40s, are navigating through the second act of their lives. Joe (Romano) is a friendly, slightly neurotic, recently separated father of two who had dreams of being a professional golfer. Now he owns and runs a party store. Terry (Bakula) is a laid-back, handsome actor who seems to breeze through life (and women). Lately, he’s spending more time working as a temp than as an actor. And Owen (Braugher) is an overstressed husband and father of three who endures constant criticism from his father, for whom he works as a car salesman.

Men Of A Certain AgeThese friends face very different challenges. Joe, who currently lives in a hotel, tries to connect with his kids and is dipping his toe in the dating pool, while also struggling with the gambling problem that may have ended his marriage. The unmarried Terry scoffs at domestic issues but sometimes wonders if his own single life is all it’s cracked up to be. Owen does everything he can to climb the sales board at his father’s car dealership and keep his cool over the seemingly endless renovation project in the home he can barely afford. Through it all, these men are there for each other when it counts.
